The Jüdische Friedhof am Weinberg is a Jewish cemetery on the flank of the Stübchensberg in the Wuppertal district of Uellendahl-Katernberg , the address is Weinberg 4 . It was laid out in 1896 as the successor to the Old Jewish Cemetery on Weißenburgstrasse .

The 11,979 m² cemetery houses the hereditary burials of renowned families and the graves of fallen soldiers from the First World War . Graves of victims of the Nazi regime's injustice , such as that of Oswald Laufer , and of people who evaded terror through suicide , as well as memorial stones for the victims of the Holocaust, are a reminder of the darkest time in German history.

Well-known Elberfeld citizens with graves in the cemetery are the rabbi Dr. Zacharias Auerbach, the rabbi family Dr. Joseph Norden and the committed citizen Max Simon.

Some of the graves date from the post-war period ; many of the deceased were immigrants from the former Soviet Union . The cemetery is open except on the Sabbath and Jewish holidays .

On the night of the pogrom from November 9th to 10th, 1938 , the mourning hall was doused with gasoline and set on fire, the graves were desecrated. In 1985 the complex with the Tahara House and the graves was placed under monument protection, whereby the valuable handicrafts of the graves were particularly appreciated. In autumn 2006 the cemetery was extensively renovated.
