It was established in 1917 and used as a refugee cemetery until the end of the First World War . 86 Mazewot have been preserved on the square area of 625 m² .

location

The epidemic cemetery is located two and a half kilometers north of the city center of Havlíčkův Brod in the fields west of Silnice I / 38 near Kotlasův Dvůr . The new municipal cemetery is 500 m south.

history

During the First World War there was a large colony of barracks for mostly Jewish refugees from the war zones in Galicia and Bukovina in Rozskošská ul. - on the site of today's psychiatric clinic . Due to the inadequate hygienic conditions in the refugee camp, which is inhabited by up to 9,000 people, typhoid fever broke out , and many children also contracted a scarlet fever and measles epidemic . The small Jewish cemetery on the outskirts of Deutschbrod did not offer a place to bury the numerous dead from the camp.

In 1917, the Jewish typhus cemetery was established outside the city behind the New Cemetery at the expense of the State Committee. The cemetery area of 25 × 25 m was surrounded with a wooden fence and planted in a cross shape with tall tree species, with lower ornamental trees in between. In the middle there was a cemetery house. Around 400 people were buried in the cemetery until the end of the war. After the refugees returned to their homeland, the cemetery was closed.

During the First Czechoslovak Republic , the cemetery was maintained by the small Jewish community Deutschbrod.

After the Holocaust , the cemetery was left to its own devices for almost 60 years; the fence fell apart, the access roads were plowed away. Three quarters of the mazewot disappeared. A grove with simple mazewot has been preserved, on which the names and origins of the deceased are carved in Hebrew and sometimes also in Latin script. In 2004 repairs and maintenance began. Matana AG is responsible for both Jewish cemeteries in Havlíčkův Brod.
