Jules Hébert
Jules Hébert (born January 1, 1812 in Geneva ; † November 10, 1897 there ) was a Swiss painter .
Life
Jules Hébert was born in Geneva, which was annexed by France at the time . He was the son of the enamel painter Nicolas-Didier Hébert and Catherine Sarah Olivier, who came from Champagne . Hébert received drawing lessons from Jérémie Arlaud and Jean-Léonard Lugardon at the school of the Société des Arts de Genève . With his friend Barthélemy Menn , Hébert took lessons from Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres in Paris.
Hébert painted genre pictures and historical scenes . He also worked as a portraitist , lithographer , wood engraver , draftsman and watercolor painter. From 1839 to 1886 he taught drawing from nature at the Geneva Art School. Hébert traveled and came as far as the Middle East .
Some of his paintings are in the Musée d'art et d'histoire in Geneva .
