The Heilbronn Jewish Center of the " Israelite Religious Community of Württemberg (IRGW) Heilbronn Branch" has been located in a business building on Allee in Heilbronn opposite the place of the Heilbronn synagogue, which was destroyed in 1938 , since 2005 .

description

In this sense, the center replaces the synagogue on the Allee that was destroyed in the November pogrom and is the new religious and social center of Heilbronn Jews. A mobile cupboard topped with a Star of David serves as a Torah shrine , with a Ner Tamid on the wall next to it. The shrine has been decorated with a blue, gold-embroidered curtain . The Bima was founded by an association. In addition to seating for 50 men, there are chairs for female parishioners behind a partition (Mechitza) in the same room. There is also a kitchen with an anteroom and a library with Judaica .

History since 1945

  • Until 1980, the Jewish community in Heilbronn consisted of six families who belonged to the Israelite religious community in Württemberg (Stuttgart).
  • Since 1990 the religious community has grown to around 150 members due to the immigrant Jews from the former Soviet Union.
  • In October 2003, Sukkot was celebrated in Heilbronn at the Masonic Lodge in Moltkestrasse, the temporary meeting place for Heilbronn Jews. Rabbi Shneur Trebnik, local rabbi in Ulm (on the one hand he is an employee of the rabbi of the IRGW and at the same time he is a member of the Chabad Lubavitch organization ; see also the Jewish community of Ulm ), appeared with a mobile sukkah .
  • In December 2003, Hanukkah was celebrated in Heilbronn for the first time since 1937 . Rabbi Shneur Trebnik came from Ulm with a big Hanukkah on a trailer. The candlestick was set up in the market square and the lights were lit there. 60 women, children and men celebrated the festival in the cellar of the Heilbronn town hall.
  • In March 2004, the Jewish community in Heilbronn tried to find a new location for a Jewish community center with a prayer room. First, the location of the synagogue, which was destroyed in the November pogroms in 1938, was considered. But the renovation costs would have amounted to a quarter of a million euros.
  • In September / October 2004 there was a celebration in the Protestant parish hall of the Christ Church and that of the Kilian parish Rosh Hashanah and later in the house of the Kilian parish Yom Kippur , because the prayer hall was not yet completely rebuilt. Therefore the Heilbronn Jewish faith either had to go to the synagogue in Stuttgart or celebrate the Shabbat in the community centers of the Evangelical Church in Heilbronn or in the boxes.
  • In 2005 a new prayer room was set up in a building on the avenue. The municipality donated 20,000 euros as a contribution.
  • In December 2005 a new Torah cabinet made of beech wood was donated by an association, which is adorned with a Star of David on a gable top.
  • On February 19, 2006, at the festive inauguration, a new Torah scroll was brought into the prayer room by the regional rabbi Netanel Wurmser . The Torah scroll was made in Israel and then had to be flown from there to Heilbronn. The costs here amounted to 20,000 euros. Members of the Israelite Religious Community in Heilbronn have inscribed the last letters on the Torah scroll.
  • Since the beginning of 2011, the IRGW Heilbronn branch has been looked after by the Orthodox Rabbi Yehuda Pushkin. The seder evenings on the occasion of Passover 5772 (April 2012) were celebrated according to a liberal rite with the liberal rabbi Yuri Kadnykov.
