Jürgen Bergener

Jürgen Dieter Bergener (born December 18, 1961 in Lubbock , Texas ) is a German football commentator. He is also an American citizen .

Career

Jürgen Bergener first took up studies at the German Sport University in Cologne , which he completed as a certified sports teacher.

His career as a football player brought him up to the major league before he had to end it prematurely due to an injury.

His journalistic career began in 1987 in the sports department of Westdeutscher Rundfunk , where he has been commenting on Bundesliga games for the sports show ever since . According to him, one of the highlights of his journalistic activities to date is an exclusive one-hour interview with the Argentinian soccer star Diego Maradona .

Bergener, who also holds an A coaching license, became a national team reporter for ARD in 1990; since then he has accompanied the games of the German national soccer team .

Jürgen Bergener is married and has three children.
