In the north the community is bounded by the national road 89, in the south by the RD 936. On this southern connection road between Bordeaux and its hinterland is an important industrial area for the municipality. history

The name Tresses comes from the braiding of braids , ribbons and braids , which has been proven to have been practiced here since the 13th century. Today the community is still rural and agricultural, but due to the influence of the nearby city of Bordeaux, it is increasingly moving into the processing industry and the service sector . This strong urban influence also leads to increased population growth, mainly of commuters. While Tresses still had 700 inhabitants in 1962, there are currently 4610 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017).

Tresses with Church of St Pierre

St Pierre Church

The three-aisled vault building in its current form dates from 1877/78. The five and a half meter square internal tower on the choir side is probably from the 12th century. It was built for military purposes. Today the tower edge, originally reinforced with battlements, is covered .

Château de Biré

This 18th century monastery belonged to the noble de Biré family . The head and progenitor of the family was Jean-Claude, who was a member of the Parliament of Bordeaux and was buried in St. Pierre in 1706. The area has a size of approx. 100 hectares and includes house, various buildings, courtyard, garden, warren, vineyards, arable land, chestnut forests, meadows and two more farms in two other communities. The main building is still in private hands today, and the associated site has shrunk to seven hectares.

Château de Lisennes

The castle probably dates from the 18th century and is now again - in the 12th generation - in family ownership. 82 hectares of land belonged to the property, of which 50 hectares are mainly used for viticulture.

There are also other historically significant castles, some of which are also associated with wine production.
