Le Pout is a commune with 603 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality is located in the catchment area of ​​the city of Bordeaux and belongs to the canton of Créon in the Arrondissement of Bordeaux .

Le Pout is located in southwest France in the Entre deux mers area between the Garonne and Dordogne rivers , 19 kilometers east of Bordeaux, the capital of the Aquitaine region, and 2.6 kilometers north of the canton capital Créon , at an average altitude of 71 meters above sea ​​level . Other neighboring communities are Loupes , Croignon and Sadirac . The municipality has an area of ​​3.93 square kilometers, on its northern edge flows the Gestas , a tributary of the Dordogne.

Attractions

Saint Martin Church

The Saint-Martin church was built in the 12th century. The choir was rebuilt in the 15th century. The entrance portal was set up in the 16th century, the porch in the 19th century. The church tower was renewed in the second half of the 18th century. The church is partially registered in the supplementary directory of the Monuments historiques ('historical monuments'). Listed elements are the decor of the interior of the church and a cemetery cross from the 16th century.

Rivalan Castle is north of the town center and north of the Saint-Martin church above the Gestas valley. It was built for the d'Angel family in the 17th century. The d'Angel family had feudal rule over Le Pout until the French Revolution (1789–1799) . During the Fronde (1648–1653), Charles de La Porte (1602–1664), loyal to the king, used the castle as a base. The stables were rebuilt in the 18th century. In 1792 the castle came into the possession of the Rivalan family, after whom it is still named today. The house was rebuilt towards the end of the 19th century. The castle is privately owned and used as a winery .
