The Arrondissement of Bordeaux is an administrative district in the French department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It consists of 25 cantons and 82 municipalities . The capital (seat of the prefecture ) is Bordeaux .

history

On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Gironde department, a District de Bordeaux was also founded, which was, however, designed differently from today's arrondissement. On February 17, 1800, the Arrondissement of Bordeaux, expanded to include the area of ​​the former District de Cadillac , was founded.

From September 10, 1926 to June 1, 1942, the area of ​​the previous arrondissement of Lesparre also belonged to the arrondissement of Bordeaux.

There were further regional changes in 2006 and 2007. With effect from May 1, 2006, the Arrondissement of Bordeaux was reduced by four cantons. The canton of Saint-André-de-Cubzac moved to the Arrondissement Blaye , the cantons Cadillac and Podensac to the Arrondissement Langon and the canton Castelnau-de-Médoc to the Arrondissement Lesparre-Médoc . On January 1, 2007, the arrondissement was reduced by a further four cantons and the new arrondissement Arcachon was formed.
