The Arrondissement Lesparre-Médoc is an administrative district in the French department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . There are five constituencies and 49 municipalities in the arrondissement . The main town (seat of the sub-prefecture ) is Lesparre-Médoc .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Gironde department, a District de Lesparre was also founded, which largely corresponded to today's arrondissement. On February 17, 1800, the arrondissement was founded from it.
From September 10, 1926 to June 1, 1942, the arrondissement was dissolved and at that time belonged to the arrondissement of Bordeaux .
As part of an administrative reform, the canton of Castelnau-de-Médoc moved from the Arrondissement of Bordeaux to the Arrondissement of Lesparre-Médoc on May 1, 2006.
geography
The arrondissement borders in the north on the estuary of the Gironde and on the opposite side in the north and northeast on the arrondissements Rochefort , Saintes and Jonzac , all three in the department Charente-Maritime , in the east on the arrondissement Blaye , in the south on the arrondissements Bordeaux and Lesparre-Médoc and to the west on the Atlantic ( Bay of Biscay ).
