Margaux was a French commune in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine with last 1,541 inhabitants (1 January 2013). It belonged to the Arrondissement of Lesparre-Médoc and the canton of Le Sud-Médoc (until 2015 the canton of Castelnau-de-Médoc ). Margaux is a part of the municipality of Margaux-Cantenac .
On January 1, 2017, the municipality of Margaux merged with Cantenac to form the new municipality of Margaux-Cantenac.

Margaux is located on the hill above the Gironde , which arises around four kilometers away from the confluence of the Garonne and Dordogne rivers .

economy
Most of the vineyards are located between the village and the river. The Margaux wine-growing region has its own wine appellation . The Haut-Médoc wine-growing region has belonged to the Premier Crus since it was classified in 1855 and is one of its best-known representatives. The core cell of wine production is Château Margaux .
