Cantenac ( Occitan is identical) is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Margaux-Cantenac with 1,375 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The inhabitants are called Cantenacais .
On January 1, 2017, the municipality of Cantenac merged with Margaux to form the new municipality of Margaux-Cantenac. It belonged to the arrondissement of Lesparre-Médoc and the canton of Le Sud-Médoc (until 2015: canton of Castelnau-de-Médoc ).

Cantenac is located about 21 kilometers north-northwest of Bordeaux on the Gironde estuary .
The municipality of Cantenac was surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Soussans in the north and northwest, Margaux in the north, Gauriac in the northeast and Bayon-sur-Gironde in the east on the opposite side of the estuary, Macau in the east and southeast, Labarde in the south and southeast, Arsac in the south and Avensan in the west.
Cantenac belongs to the Margaux wine region .
