Château Palmer
The Château Palmer is one of the most famous wineries of Bordeaux . Since the classification of 1855 , the winery has been classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé , the third highest level of the classification. However, with its excellent products, the estate regularly competes in quality with the Premiers and Deuxièmes Crus and consequently often tops the prices of all non-Premier wines. The wine of this estate is at least as important as the so-called "Super Seconds" Château Léoville-las-Cases , Château Cos d'Estournel and Château Pichon-Longueville-Comtesse de Lalande .
The winery is located in Margaux , in the immediate vicinity of the town and its more famous neighbor, Château Margaux , on the "Route du Vin", department road no. 2.
The main building of Château Palmer is one of the most beautiful in the Medoc: tall turrets loom on every corner of the castle .
The wine
The best wines ever made are the Château Palmer from the 1961 and 1989 vintages . The 1961 is rated by the internationally recognized wine critic Robert Parker with 100 Parker points as a perfect wine. A bottle of this vintage can rarely be bought for less than 1,200 euros (as of 2005). Due to the exorbitant price, fakes and incorrect refills are now known.
The estate's second wine is called Alter Ego de Palmer , previously known as the Réserve de General . Château Palmer is accompanied and advised by the oenologist Jacques Boissenot and his son Eric.
