Château Pédesclaux

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Château Pédesclaux is a little-known winery in the Bordeaux wine- growing region . Since the classification of 1855 the winery has been classified as Cinquième Grand Cru Classé (fifth level of classification). The estate is in the Pauillac appellation .

The Jugla family has owned the estate since 1950. In 1996 the management changed: Jean-Michel and Pierre Jugla with Mrs. Brigitte and Denis Jugla manage the business. In October 2009, the Jugla family sold the winery to the businessman Jacky Lorenzetti through the Ovalto Investissement holding .

The American wine critic Robert Parker describes the estate as the "most obscure member" of this category with its 1855 classification as the fifth plant. Quote (Parker, Bordeaux, Hallwag 2004, ISBN 3-7742-6580-1 ): "Life is too short to drink pédesclaux." Parker's assessment must be in the context of the time of the judgment and Parker's preference for a particular Wine type to be seen. But it is also shared by other critics. Little Johnson (2006) writes: “5. Cru at the level of a bourgeois cru ”. Since the heirs took over the château, a lot has been invested in the quality of the wine. Since 2000 there has been a clear improvement, which has already been recognized by some wine critics. Ovalto Investissement would like to continue the quality policy adopted. Château Pédesclaux is accompanied and advised by the oenologist Jacques Boissenot and his son Eric.

The estate has an area of 46 hectares : 44 hectares in the Pauillac appellation and 2 hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation . The vineyard is planted with the four classic grape varieties of the Bordelais: 47% with Cabernet Sauvignon , 48% with Merlot , 3% with Petit Verdot and 2% with Cabernet Franc .

Three wines are produced: Château Pédesclaux, the Grand Vin in the Pauillac appellation, Fleur de Pédesclaux , the second wine in the Haut-Médoc appellation and Le Haut-Médoc de Pédesclaux from the two hectares in the Haut-Médoc appellation as well as stocks of the Appellation Pauillac.
