history

The property belonged to the formerly powerful Seigneurie d'Arsac. The history of this noble family can be traced back to the knight Guillaume Guiral d'Arsac in 1143. During the Hundred Years War the family was an ally of the English and had a country estate in Arsac. The land remained in the possession of this family until the late 16th century. Amanieu d'Arsac had 2 daughters, Jaquette and Maguerite. Jaquette married Thomas de Montaigne, brother of the famous Michel de Montaigne .
