history

Original vineyards were long known under the name Gorce . In 1820 Baron de Brane took over these parcels and gradually added further parcels to these areas. He named the winery Brane-Cantenac in 1843 . In order to fully devote himself to building up this estate, he sold his Brane-Mouton winery to the Rothschild banking family in 1833 .

In 1920 the estate was taken over by the Lurton family, who later also took over Château Durfort-Vivens in Margaux . The current manager is Henri Lurton, who took over the estate from his father Lucien in 1992. The cellar master is Christophe Capdeville.
