Château Marquis d'Alesme-Becker

Château Marquis d'Alesme-Becker is a French winery in the Margaux appellation on the Médoc peninsula . With 16 hectares of vineyards, it is a comparatively small estate that received the rank of 3ième Grand Cru in the Bordeaux wine classification in 1855 .

The first vineyards were laid out in 1585 by the Marquis d'Alesme; the first wines were demonstrably brought onto the market in 1616. Only in 1859 was a Louis XIII style country house built. built in the vicinity of Château Margaux and surrounded by a beautiful park. After numerous takeovers, it came into the possession of the English family W. H. Chaplin. They sold it together with the Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry in 1955 to the Zuger family. The two estates were operated together until 1979.

The Château Marquis d'Alesme-Becker estate was managed by Jean-Claude Zuger until 2006. He sold the vineyards on June 22, 2006 to Herbert Perrodo. Château Malescot Saint-Exupéry is managed by Roger Zuger.

The vineyards in Soussans and Margaux are planted 45% with the grape variety Merlot , 30% Cabernet Sauvignon , 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Petit Verdot . After fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, the red wine matures for twelve months in barriques , one third of which is renewed annually. Around 100,000 bottles are marketed annually. In addition there are around 20,000 bottles of the second wine Marquis d'Alesme .
