history

On August 11, 1754, Jacques Boyd, of Irish descent, bought vineyards from the de Sainvincens family and thus founded the winery. On August 28, 1806 the estate passed to John-Lewis Brown, who had married into the Boyd family. The greater part he called Château Cantenac-Brown. For this part he designed the Tudor-style building, which is well worth seeing . In 1843 he sold the château to a banker named Gromard. It was later bought in 1860 by the wealthy wine merchant Armand Lalande, who also owned the Château Léoville-Poyferré . He replanted the vineyards and modernized the cellars. Mrs. Edouard Lawton (née Lalande) bequeathed the property to her son Jean, who in 1968 gave the property to the du Vivier family in a very poor condition. In 1989 the property became the property of the AXA insurance group . It has been owned by the Halabi family since 2006.
