The Château Calon-Segur is one of the famous wineries of Bordeaux . Since the classification of 1855 , the winery has been classified as Troisième Grand Cru Classé , the third highest level of classifications.

It is located in Saint-Estèphe , north of the town center. The estate is owned by the French company Suravenir, a subsidiary of the insurance company Crédit Mutuel Arkea, also based in France, which acquired it in the summer of 2012 from the private property of the Capbern-Gasqueton family. However, Calon Ségur was made famous as early as the 18th century by its owner, the famous Marquis de Ségur, who was also the owner of Château Lafite and Château Latour : “I grow my wine on Lafite and Latour. But my heart is in Calon. ”To this day, the Calon-Ségur label still shows a heart.

The estate is of medium size with around 53 hectares . 65% of the area is with the grape Cabernet Sauvignon , 20% Merlot , and 15% with Cabernet Franc planted. In middle years the estate produces around 240,000 bottles of wine .

The wines from Calon-Ségur had Premier Cru level for decades , but took a qualitative downturn in the 1960s. Quality has been on the up again since the early 1990s. Among the younger vintages , the wines from 2005 ( wine evaluation : 92+  PP ) and 2003 (94 PP) stood out, also the wines from 2000 (95+ PP), 1996 (92 PP), 1995 (92+ PP) and 1982 (94 PP) are excellent.

The second wine of the winery is called Marquis de Ségur .
