Michael Gundringer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Michael Gundringer (born July 28, 1876 in Oberndorf near Salzburg , † November 1, 1957 there ) was an Austrian local researcher, theater writer and local poet.

Life

From 1891 Michael Gundringer completed an apprenticeship as a saddler and upholsterer journeyman in Laufen with master saddler Joseph Ullrich. This was followed by the traveling years of a journeyman. He spent seven years with the traveling ship theater company in Laufen. In 1896 he was accepted into the Oberndorf ship's rifle guild. In 1901 he joined the postal service. With a regular income as a country mailman, he was able to support his family in the great economic hardship of the time. Many encounters in these 30 years of activity influenced him in his writing.

In his endeavors to preserve the customs, the annually recurring historical memorial days of the Salzach boatmen such as the Leonhardi-Bühel-Ritt, the carol singing and the shepherd's game were particularly close to his heart. He also made a name for himself when he revived the traditional Schifferstechen or appeared as the organizer of the glamorous pirate battle on the Salzach , which were considered highlights in the Oberndorf / Laufen region and in the Salzburg area.

When the last director of the traveling Schiffertheater Ferdinand Pfaffenberger died in 1910, he carried on the tradition of the old theater on a stationary stage in Oberndorf and performed his own and other stage works there. He succeeded in depicting the old boatmen customs and the nature of the Salzach boatmen on the stage.
