Products from the whiskey distillery of the Institute for Fermentation Industry

The German whiskey distilleries are mostly small and micro distilleries . In 2016 around 150 distilleries produced whiskey in Germany . Many of them also produce other brandies or operate whiskey production in small quantities as a niche and side business.

In the GDR , the VEB Bärensiegel had the Old Joe Silver variety , and the VEB Edelbrände und Spirituosen Luckenwalde the Falckner variety . The VEB Nordbrand in Nordhausen produced a whiskey under the name Smoky Springs .
