Soussans ( Occitan : Sauçan ) is a French commune in the department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine with 1,629 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017). It belongs to the Arrondissement of Lesparre-Médoc and the canton of Le Sud-Médoc (until 2015: canton of Castelnau-de-Médoc ).

geography

Soussans is located about 26 kilometers north-northwest of Bordeaux on the Gironde estuary . Soussans is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Arcins in the north, Plassac in the northeast and Villeneuve in the east on the opposite side of the estuary, Gauriac in the southeast, Margaux-Cantenac in the south, Avensan in the west and southwest and Moulis-en-Médoc in the west.
