Salaunes is located about 22 kilometers northwest of Bordeaux in the Médoc . Salaunes is surrounded by the neighboring communities Castelnau-de-Médoc in the north, Avensan in the northeast, Saint-Aubin-de-Médoc in the east, Saint-Médard-en-Jalles in the south and southeast, Le Temple in the southwest and Sainte-Hélène in the west and northwest.

The former route nationale 215 (today's D1215) runs through the municipality .
