The Arrondissement Villeneuve-sur-Lot is an administrative district in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the French region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Lot-et-Garonne department, a District de Villeneuve was also founded, although it was smaller than the current arrondissement. On February 17, 1800, the arrondissement was founded from this and from parts of the former districts of Lauzun and Monflanquin.
On November 4, 1808, parts of the arrondissement (the canton of Montaigu-de-Quercy ) were added to the then newly founded department Tarn-et-Garonne .

geography
The arrondissement borders in the north with the arrondissements Bergerac and Sarlat-la-Canéda in the Dordogne department , in the east with the arrondissement Cahors in the department Lot ( Occitania ), in the southeast with the arrondissement Castelsarrasin in the department Tarn-et-Garonne, also in the region Occitania, in the south to the Arrondissement Agen and in the west to the Arrondissement Marmande .
