The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and the canton of Le Haut Agenais Périgord (until 2015: canton of Monflanquin ).

The name of the community is derived from the Occitan word La Cauçada , which means "paved flat" and refers to the former Roman road that connected Périgueux with Eysses, which is now a hamlet of Villeneuve-sur-Lot .

The inhabitants are called Caussadencs and Caussadencques or Lacaussadais and Lacaussadaises .

Neighboring communities
Savignac-sur-Leyze Saint-Aubin Monségur

Lacaussade lies in the catchment area of the Garonne River .

The Leyze, a tributary of the Lède , forms a natural border with the neighboring municipalities of Saint-Aubin and Monségur to the south. The Ruisseau de Labriane crosses the area of the municipality to flow south into the Leyze.

history

During excavations, bricks and pieces of mortar have been found, which prove the existence of the Roman road that led through what is now Lacaussade. The strategic location above the river valleys led to the construction of a fortress or an advanced post in the Middle Ages . The area on the border between Agenais and Périgord played a major role during the Hundred Years War . The castle in the hamlet of Canabazès from the 16th century has retained its curtain wall to this day. It testifies to the involvement of the area in the Huguenot Wars .

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of 450 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 120 inhabitants during short recovery phases until the 1980s, before a phase of at times strong growth began. that continues today.
