Monclar (also: Monclar-d'Agenais , Occitan : Montclar ) is a French city with a population of 871 (as at 1st January 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . The municipality is located in the arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and is part of the canton of Le Livradais (until 2015: canton of Monclar ).

Monclar is located about 27 kilometers north-northwest of Agen between the Tolzac and Lot rivers . Monclar is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Montastruc in the north, Pinel-Hauterive in the east, Saint-Étienne-de-Fougères in the south-east, Fongrave in the south, Castelmoron-sur-Lot in the south-west, Brugnac in the west and Coulx in the west and north-west.

history

Monclar was founded as a bastide in 1256 by Alfonso von Poitiers .
