Auradou is a French municipality with 396 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and the canton of Le Pays de Serres (until 2015: canton of Penne-d'Agenais ).

The name in the Occitan language is orador , which is derived from the Latin oratorium ( German  oratorium, chapel ).

The inhabitants are called Auratoriens and Auratoriennes .

geography

Auradou is about twelve kilometers southeast of Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the historic province of Agenais on the eastern edge of the department.

Auradou is located in the catchment area of ​​the Garonne River .

The Tancanne, a tributary of the Boudouyssou , crosses the territory of the municipality together with its tributaries, the Ruisseau de Lartigue and the Ruisseau de Combe-Lou-Bas, which rises in Auradou.

Population development

At the beginning of the 19th century, the population rose to a high of around 655. In the following period, the size of the community fell to 220 inhabitants with short recovery phases up to the 1970s, before a phase of growth began that continues today.
