history
Round graves were discovered and excavated at the foot of the hill near the hamlet of Lamouroux, so that the age of the graves could be determined from the Iron Age . The same remains were found in the hamlet of Paganel. Since no tombs were created during this time without a corresponding collection of settlers, the finds show that these places have been inhabited for a long time.
Nevertheless, some of the populations moved away. In the hamlet of Puycalvary, traces of a castrum , forerunner of a castle , have been discovered along with a simple church dating from the 10th century. The castrum, on which some houses were grouped, was subsequently replaced by a castle complex, which was shared by three brothers of the Palazol family in 1288. At that time, a group of houses formed a village around a church that was not far from the castle. The village of Dausse was less important at the same time. Although there was a church and at least a hostel in Dausse, the houses were widely scattered.
Both churches were devastated in the Huguenot Wars . The church of Dausse was restored in 1572 and the residents of Puycalvary moved away, some of them to Dausse. In 1754 both parishes were united. In the middle of the 19th century, the census showed that there were no residents and no church in the vicinity of the castle. At the same time, Dausse developed with the construction of a school, the restoration of the old church and the construction of a new church. At the beginning of the 20th century, the mayor's office was finally established.
Population development
After records began, the population rose to an initial high of around 500 by the middle of the 19th century. In the following period, the size of the community fell to around 285 inhabitants during short recovery phases up to the 1960s, before a phase with at times strong growth began, which continues today.
