Lalandusse is a French municipality with 222 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Lot-et-Garonne in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine (before 2016: Aquitaine ). The municipality belongs to the arrondissement of Villeneuve-sur-Lot and the canton of Le Val du Dropt (until 2015: canton of Castillonnès ).

There are several theories about the origin of the name of the community. In addition to the French word lande ( German  Heide ), it could be derived from the Latin mons latus , which can mean an elongated mountain or a spacious castle.

The inhabitants are called Lalandusseois and Lalandusseois .

Lalandusse is located about 30 kilometers northwest of Villeneuve-sur-Lot in the historic province of Agenais on the northern border with the neighboring Dordogne department .

The Dropt , a tributary of the Garonne, forms the natural border with the northern neighboring communities of Saint-Aubin-de-Cadelech and Plaisance.

The Ruisseau de Lacalège, a tributary of the Dropt, and the Douanel, a tributary of the Douyne, cross the territory of the municipality.

history

The discovery of pieces of amphorae from the time of the Roman Republic indicate that the area was already settled in the second century BC. Chr. The parish was mentioned in the records from 1266 onwards. Until the French Revolution , Lalandusse belonged to the Baronate of Cahuzac and the parish was part of the Sarlat diocese . In 1790, the municipality merged with the then neighboring municipalities of Douzains and Saint-Grégoire, which is now a hamlet of Douzains. Five years later Lalandusse became independent again, but kept the area of ​​the former parish of Gassac and the part of Cadelech south of the Dropt.

Population development

After records began, the population rose to a peak of around 655 in the first half of the 19th century. In the period that followed, the size of the community fell to 155 inhabitants during short recovery phases until the 1970s, before a phase of moderate growth began. which continues to this day.
