The Arrondissement Langon is an administrative district in the French department of Gironde in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It consists of 15 cantons and 196 municipalities . The main town (seat of the sub-prefecture ) is Langon .
history
On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Gironde department, a District de Bazas was also founded, although it was smaller than the current Arrondissement Langon. On February 17, 1800, the Arrondissement Bazas was founded.
On September 10, 1926 it became the Arrondissement Langon, the area of the dissolved Arrondissement La Réole was added.
As part of an administrative reform, the cantons of Cadillac and Podensac moved from the Arrondissement of Bordeaux to the Arrondissement of Langon on May 1, 2006 .
geography
The arrondissement borders in the north on the arrondissement Libourne , in the east on the arrondissements Marmande and Nérac in the department Lot-et-Garonne , in the south on the arrondissement Mont-de-Marsan in the department Landes and in the west on the arrondissements Arcachon and Bordeaux.
There are four cantons in the arrondissement:
- L'Entre-deux-Mers (with 51 of 57 municipalities)
- Le Réolais et Les Bastides (with 76 out of 90 parishes)
- Le Sud-Gironde
- Les Landes des Graves (with 20 out of 25 municipalities)
