Aillas Town Hall

Aillas is a municipality with 822 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Haute-Lande-Girondine , a highland in the Gironde department in southwest France . In the local dialect of Gascony , the Gascon , the church will Alhars called. The residents are known as Aillassais . The city of Bordeaux is 64 kilometers northwest, the canton capital Auros seven kilometers northwest of Aillas.

history

The Latin name was "Aliaceus" or "Alliaceus". The settlement is later mentioned as "Alius" and in the 13th century as "Ailas". Under the Visigoths , Waillas , as Aillas was called back then, was a central place with a traditional market.

In 1851 Aillas was involved in forming the new community of Sigalens .
