Castel-d'Albret is a French municipality with 53 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Gironde department in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the arrondissement of Langon and the canton of Le Réolais et Les Bastides .
With an area of 3.76 hectares (roughly the size of Place Charles de Gaulle in Paris), Castelmoron is the smallest municipality in France.
history
Castelmoron-d'Albret was a vice-county in the possession of the House of Albret and part of the Duchy of Albret.
During the French Revolution , the parish of Sainte-Catherine de Castelmoron became the municipality of Castelmoron.
At the time of the National Convention (1792–1795) the community carried the provisional revolutionary name Castel-Marat .
In 1957 it was given the addition of Albret to distinguish it from the municipality of Castelmoron-sur-Lot in the neighboring Lot-et-Garonne department .
