It belongs to the arrondissement of Langon and the canton of L'Entre-deux-Mers (until 2015 Saint-Macaire ). The inhabitants are called pianais .

Le Pian-sur-Garonne is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Saint-André-du-Bois in the north, Saint-Pierre-d'Aurillac in the east, Saint-Pierre-de-Mons in the south, Saint-Macaire in the southwest and Saint-Maixant in the West.
