The Aillas castle ruins are the ruins of a hilltop castle built at the end of the 13th century in Aillas , a French commune in the Gironde department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . The castle ruins have been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1886 .

The owners of the manor , the Les Albret family, had the castle built to control the intersection of several streets. The Count had the castle by a henchman inhabit that of manorial subjects was supported in the area if necessary.

The castle was razed in 1629 as part of an edict under Richelieu to prevent any fronde against the French king. The village below the castle soon became desolate too .
