Patrick Hickey

Patrick Joseph Hickey (born June 17, 1945 ) is an Irish businessman, sports official and former judoka.

General

Patrick Hickey worked as a real estate agent and started his own company, Hickey Auctioneers . Hickey was active as a judoka and reached the 2nd dan in judo . He was a member of the Irish national judo team.

Sports administration

Patrick Hickey is Honorary President for Life of the Irish Judo Federation. From 1989 to 2016 he was President of the Irish NOK and accompanied the Irish Olympic teams as Chef de Mission to the Summer Games in Seoul in 1988 and Barcelona in 1992. From 2006 to 2016 he was President of the umbrella organization of the European Olympic Committees .

IOC membership

Patrick Hickey was elected an IOC member in 1995. In 2016 he resigned from his membership.

Corruption allegations

Patrick Hickey was arrested during the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro . He is accused of participating in illegal ticket trading. As a result, Hickey resigned as President of the Irish NOK and the EOC. He also resigned from his offices at the IOC. Hickey, who denied all the allegations against him, was able to return to Ireland on bail of 410,000 euros in November 2016.
