The Arrondissement Bayonne (Basque Baiona) is an administrative district in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the French region Nouvelle-Aquitaine .

history

On March 4, 1790, with the establishment of the Basses-Pyrénées department, a “District Ustaritz” was founded, which largely corresponded to the present-day arrondissement. On February 17, 1800 the Arrondissement Bayonne was founded from it.

Since September 10, 1926, parts of the dissolved Arrondissement Mauléon were slammed into the Arrondissement Bayonne.

The new territorial division of the cantons, defined by the law of May 17, 2013 and, in relation to the department, by the decree of February 25, 2014, resulted in a new administrative structure of the department in 2015, with the number of cantons in the department from 52 has now been reduced to 27. Since then, the communes of a canton are no longer necessarily in the same arrondissement and several cantons are divided into two arrondissements.

Since January 1, 2017, the Bayonne arrondissement has been part of the Communauté d'agglomération du Pays Basque .
