Briscous ( Basque : Beskoitze ) is a French municipality with 2806 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Bayonne and the canton of Nive-Adour (until 2015: canton of La Bastide-Clairence ). The inhabitants are called Beskoiztar .
geography
The municipality is located in the French Basque Country in the historic province of Labourd . The municipality is bordered in the north by the Ardanavy River and the Suhihandia in the south . Briscous is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Urcuit in the north and northwest, Urt in the east and northeast, Hasparren in the south and Mouguerre in the west.
The Autoroute A64 and the former Route nationale 636 (today's D936) run through the municipality .
