The canton of La Bastide-Clairence was a French constituency in the Arrondissement of Bayonne in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Aquitaine region until 2015 . The last representative in the General Council of the Département was Jean Castaings from 1998 to 2015.

The canton was bordered in the north by the canton of Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx in the Dax arrondissement in the Landes department , in the east by the cantons of Bidache and Saint-Palais , in the south by part of the canton Hasparren and the canton of Iholdy and in the west as well to the canton of Hasparren.

history

The canton was founded on March 4, 1790 as part of the establishment of the départements as part of what was then the "District of Ustaritz". With the founding of the arrondissements on February 17, 1800, the canton was redesigned as part of what was then the Bayonne arrondissement.
