history
The settlement of Ainhice was first mentioned in the 12th century under the name Anfiz . Not far from Ainhice , Mongelos was built as a bastide around 1240 . Fortified and ditched, the bastide served to protect the highways from Ainhice to Bustince and Iriberry , as well as the connection from Gamarthe to Lacarre.
In the war of the Holy League (1511-1513) , the Kingdom of Navarre became the secondary theater of the clashes between Louis XII. , King of France and Ferdinand II of Aragon , whose military leader, the Duke of Alba , first conquered Navarre in 1512. In the autumn of 1512, John III, King of Navarre and vassal of the French king, attempted a counter-offensive. A first battle took place in front of Ainhice-Mongelos, which the troops of the Duke of Alba had previously set on fire before they withdrew. At the end of the war, the Kingdom of Navarre was finally split in two.
Ainhice and Mongelos merged on August 16, 1841 to form today's parish.
