The Nive , Errobi in Basque , is a river that runs mainly in France in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region . Its source stream Harpéko Erreka rises in the Pyrenees , on the northwest flank of the Mandi-Zar summit (1323 m), just under Spanish territory , in the autonomous province of Navarre . It reaches French territory in the municipality of Estérençuby and is shortly thereafter called Nive de Béhérobie . At Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port it takes up the tributaries Laurhibar and Nive d'Arnéguy and from here on is only called Nive . It generally drains north-west through the French Basque Country and, after a total length of around 79 kilometers, flows into the Adour as a left tributary in the center of Bayonne , just before it flows into the Atlantic .
etymology
