Boucau is a French municipality with 8350 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the Arrondissement Bayonne in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . She was according to the decree of Napoleon III. Founded three years after the arrival of the railway in Bayonne on September 14, 1857. The name Boucau comes from the Gasconian boucaou ('small mouth') and describes the confluence of the Adour into the Atlantic .
