Jaxu is a French commune with 202 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the Pyrénées-Atlantiques department of the Aquitaine region . It belongs to the canton of Montagne Basque (until 2015: canton of Saint-Jean-Pied-de-Port ). The inhabitants call themselves Jatsuar .

geography

The village of Jaxu in the Pays de Cize in the Basque province of Lower Navarra is located in the French Pyrenees . Jaxu is connected to the network of département roads through the D22 . Earlier place names were Jacsu , Jassu (both around 1249), Jadssu (1347) and Jaxou (1703).
