Deluxe Sumberraute ( Basque Lukuze-Altzumarta ) is a French municipality with 404 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Bayonne arrondissement and the canton of Pays de Bidache, Amikuze et Ostibarre (until 2015: canton of Saint-Palais ).

Luxe Sumberraute is part of the Pays de Mixe in the Basque province of Lower Navarra . Neighboring municipalities are: Labets-Biscay in the north, Amendeuix-Oneix and Garris in the east, Béguios in the west and Beyrie-sur-Joyeuse in the south.
history
The place name Luxe occurred in the past in the following forms: Luxa (12th century), Sancta Maria de Lucse (1160), Luc (1249), Lucxa (1264), Luxa (1264), Luixe (13th century), Lucxa (1384), Nostre-Done de Lucxe (1472) and Lixe (1650).
The place name Sumberraute occurred in the past in the following forms: Sanctus Martinus de Alzumberraute (1160), Alçumbarrauta (1268), Alçunbarraute (1350 and 1412), Alsumberraute (1472), Alçumbarrate (1513) and Azumbarraute (1621).
Luxe was the capital of the county of Luxe, which belonged to the Kingdom of Navarre in the Middle Ages. In the 18th century, Luxe was a sovereign principality owned by the House of Montmorency . Luxe and Sumberraute were merged on June 27, 1842.
