Biriatou ( Basque : Biriatu ) is a commune in the French Basque Country with 1,222 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Bayonne , to the canton of Hendaye-Côte Basque-Sud (until 2015: canton of Hendaye ) and to the municipal association Agglomération du Pays Basque . The inhabitants are called Biriatuar .
geography
Biriatou is located about 25 kilometers southwest of Bayonne in the south of the historic Labourd province in the western Pyrenees on the border with Spain . Biriatou is surrounded by the neighboring communities Urrugne in the north and east, Bera in the south and south-east and Irun in the west.
The A63 autoroute runs through the municipality .
