Lahonce Town Hall

Lahonce ( Basque Lehuntze ) is a French municipality with 2418 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Lahonce belongs to the Arrondissement of Bayonne and is part of the canton of Nive-Adour (until 2015: canton of Saint-Pierre-d'Irube ). The inhabitants are called Lehunztar .

geography

Lahonce is about seven kilometers east of Bayonne on the Adour . Lahonce is surrounded by the neighboring communities of Tarnos in the north and north-west, Saint-Martin-de-Seignanx in the north, Urcuit in the east, Mouguerre in the south and east and Bayonne in the north-west.

history

A Premonstratensian monastery was founded here in 1227.
