Urrugne ( Basque : Urruña ) is a French commune in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine with 10,317 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017). Urrugne is part of the Bayonne arrondissement and the canton of Hendaye-Côte Basque-Sud (until 2015: canton of Hendaye ). The inhabitants are called Urrugnar .
geography
Urrugne is located in the historical Basque province of Labourd , on the Spanish border south of the municipality and on the Bay of Biscay in the north. Urrugne is surrounded by Ciboure in the northeast, Ascain in the east, Bera behind the Spanish border in the south, Biriatou in the southwest and Hendaye in the west.
The route to Bera leads over the Col d'Ibardin pass road .
The A63 autoroute runs through the municipality from Bordeaux via Bayonne to Donostia-San Sebastián in Spain, as does the former Route nationale 10 .
The municipality includes the hamlets and localities Antziola , Aizburu , Goyeiex , Herbarren , Herburu , Ibildotz , Kexiloa , La Place , Larrun , Legartze , Lezarritz , Manddale , Mendiondo , Mendi Xoko , Olheta , Serres , Subernoua and Unabaita .
