Sare ( Basque Sara) is a French municipality with 2651 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Bayonne and the Canton of Ustaritz-Vallées de Nive et Nivelle (until 2015: Canton Espelette ), the latter to the French Basque Country .
Sare is one of the most beautiful villages in France .
At the beginning of the 19th century, Sare was divided into seven sections: Hariztegi, Zugarramurdi, Sainte-Barbe, la Palombière, Ibantelli, La Rhune and la Place. Today, Sare consists of 12 districts: Ahuntz karrika, Basaburua, Egimehar, Erremuxil, Goiburu, Haranburua, Herbarrun, Ihalar, Iztilarte, Lapitzea, Lehenbizkai and Olhaldea
Neighboring municipalities are Saint-Pée-sur-Nivelle in the northeast, Urdazubi / Urdax (Spanish) in the southeast, Etxalar in the south (Spanish), Bera in the southwest (Spanish) and Urrugne (point of contact) and Ascain in the northwest.
