Bidache ( Basque Bidaxune , Gascon Bidaishe ) is a French municipality with 1370 inhabitants (at January 1, 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the Arrondissement of Bayonne and the canton of Pays de Bidache, Amikuze et Ostibarre (until 2015 canton of Bidache ). The city is located on the Bidouze River at the confluence of its tributary Lihoury .

history
Earlier names of the place were Vidaxen (1312) and Vidayxon (1329), Bidaxen (1489). From the end of the 16th century until the Revolution, Bidache was a small principality that called itself sovereign and owned by the Dukes of Gramont . From 1790, Bidache belonged to the canton of the same name, which in turn consisted only of the town and was assigned to the Saint-Palais district .
