Hasparren ( Basque Hazparne ) is a French municipality with 6879 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine . It belongs to the canton of Baïgura et Mondarrain (until 2015: main town (French: chef-lieu ) of the canton Hasparren ). The inhabitants are called Haspandards .
geography
Hasparren is part of the historic Labourd region . The sources of the Ardanavy and the Suhihandia are located in the municipality. Hasparren is surrounded by the neighboring communities Briscous and Urt in the north, Ayherre and La Bastide-Clairence in the east, Macaye , Mendionde and Bonloc in the south and Cambo-les-Bains , Halsou , Jatxou and Mouguerre in the west.
history
Hasparren became famous for the Roman stele from the 2nd century AD, which was used in the church wall.
