The Arrondissement Confolens is an administrative unit of the Charente département in the French region of Nouvelle-Aquitaine . Sub-prefecture is Confolens .
It comprises 141 municipalities from four cantons . The current regional layout is the result of an administrative reform that on January 1, 2008 transferred the municipalities of the then cantons Aigre , Mansle , Ruffec and Villefagnan from the Arrondissement Angoulême to the Arrondissement Confolens, which originally only consisted of 63 municipalities Arrondissements downsized.

Reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017
As a result of the reorganization of the arrondissements in 2017, the Arrondissement Angoulême became the area of the 15 municipalities Ambérac , Anais , Aussac-Vadalle , Coulonges , La Chapelle , Maine-de-Boixe , Montignac-Charente , Nanclars , Saint-Amant-de-Boixe , Tourriers , Vars , Vervant , Villejoubert , Vouharte and Xambes assigned to the Arrondissement Confolens.
Instead, the area of the municipality of Saint-Adjutory changed from the Arrondissement Confolens to the Arrondissement Angoulême .
