Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure is a French commune with 3,046 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Charente in the region Nouvelle-Aquitaine ; it belongs to the Arrondissement of Confolens and the canton of Charente-Bonnieure . The inhabitants are called Chasseneuillais (es) .
geography
The municipality is traversed by the Bonnieure , a tributary of the Charente . Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure is surrounded by the neighboring municipalities of Lussac in the north, Suaux in the northeast, Vitrac-Saint-Vincent in the east, Saint-Adjutory in the southeast, Taponnat-Fleurignac in the south, Les Pins in the southwest, Saint-Mary in the west and Cellefrouin in the north-west.
The former Route nationale 141 (today's D941) and the former Route nationale 151bis run through the municipality .
history
In Chasseneuil-sur-Bonnieure, the Maquis de Bir Hacheim resistance group was formed in 1943 under the leadership of Claude Bonnier . The road of freedom in Chasseneuil ( Route Claude Bonnier - Route de la Liberté ) is named after the founder .
